There’s an important distinction on Facebook that not everyone may be familiar with – the profile vs. the page. Most people have a Facebook profile, which they use primarily for personal activity. A business or brand will have a Facebook page, which is similar to a profile but represents the business or brand, not an individual. Multiple Facebook profiles can act as administrators of a Facebook page. In addition, you need to have a Facebook profile to create a Facebook page, and for people who create and manage Facebook pages on behalf of a company, this can often result in an uncomfortable overlap between their personal and professional activity on Facebook.
There is another option though – the Facebook Business Account. This is a way to have a Facebook business profile that can be used to manage Facebook ads and pages, without you needing to use your personal Facebook profile. Unfortunately, Facebook has made this option pretty difficult to find. Fortunately, social media strategist Liz Gross wrote about this very topic, where she explains why you may want to do this and exactly how to do it. If you are in any way responsible for creating or managing a business Facebook page, you’ll want to look into this option.
