Brady Balhorn joined the ranks at Checkerboard back in August of 2018. He’s our newest team member and the focus of this month’s employee highlight. Brady came to us fresh out of college, where he majored in Communications Studies and Psychological Science.  His interest in analytics and communications made him the perfect candidate for our SEO Analyst position. I sat down to ask him some questions about his job and his personal life so that our readers could get to know him better.

Alison: What do you love about your job?

Brady: The best part about my job is that I’m constantly learning new things. While I was brought in as an SEO Analyst, I have been able to contribute in many aspects of the company at one point or another. While I’m in no way a developer or web designer, I’ve learned enough in these areas to be able to launch a couple of websites on my own time. I also love the opportunity to research a variety of industries and learn more about other areas of business.

Alison: What’s something interesting you do in your spare time outside of work?

Brady: I spend nearly all my free time researching the best college football players in the NFL draft. I know more about the players each year than any of the experts on TV, and now manage a website for my player rankings. It’s something I’ve done since 2013, and it’s really fun to predict the players’ career paths based on their college statistics, and specific skill sets. I learn about over 2,000 players each year, and it allows me to use my imagination and analytical mindset in a unique way.

Alison: What do you love about Checkerboard?

Brady: Checkerboard has given me the opportunity to learn so much about the world of digital marketing and web design, and is a relaxed environment with really awesome people. Whether I’m talking to a boss or a co-worker, I know that I can get help if needed or have a friendly conversation. The work environment has given me the opportunity to grow as an employee and person. Not having to drive to the Cities is also a huge plus!

Alison: Lightening Round. What’s your favorite…

• Movie: Zootopia. Such a fascinating movie with a lot of hidden messaging.
• Book: The Hunger Games books. The HG series was the first book series that I genuinely enjoyed reading when I was younger.
• Superhero: Batman
• Video Game: Minecraft. There are endless possibilities.
• Show: Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones
• Color: Red
