I’m a big fan of Audible, and many of the books I consume are in the audiobook format. Audible had a sale through this most recent Thanksgiving weekend, and I now have a virtual pile of books to get through in the coming months. One that I picked up is In the Plex: How Google Thinks, Works, and Shapes Our Lives by Steven Levy. For those of us who are involved in building or managing websites, Google touches your life in a number of ways. Even if you don’t, you’re bound to use a Google service at some point in your day-to-day life. Google Search, GMail, AdWords and AdSense, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Analytics, Android – the list goes on and on. If you’re at all interested in Google’s rise to power, it’s unconventional outlook, and the breadth of it’s influence, I’d highly recommend this book. Having been published in 2011, it is a few years old now, but it’s still very relevant. It was an interesting and useful supplement to my typical exposure to the company, providing some backstory to the Google products and services I use everyday.
